ChessEscape

Official Release of ChessEscape

Today, Sunday November 23, 2025—the solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe—I officially present the complete version of ChessEscape. Unlike the beta version released on October 2, this edition not only has all its levels, music, and sound finished, but it is now also available for Android devices.

I know you may still find some bugs or details that need polishing, but the heart of the game is already beating strongly. Its story can be played from beginning to end, delivering the message I wanted to share from the very start. As I once said:

“The Kingdom is not kept locked away; it is shared with humility, even in its imperfect form.”

The development of ChessEscape is not completely closed. I will keep refining details and adding improvements over time. For those who want to support this process, I have created a bug report section here on this website.

How to install ChessEscape on your Android phone

  1. Download the app by clicking the APK download button.
  2. Open your phone’s file manager and look for the ChessEscape APK; you will easily recognize it by the game icon.
  3. Your phone will probably warn you about the risks of installing external apps. Android usually shows this message for any APK. If you decide to continue, manually authorize the installation.
  4. The app will be installed automatically on your phone.
  5. Look for the ChessEscape icon on your device’s home screen.
  6. If you want to give it priority, you can place it on your main home screen, next to the apps you use the most. That way you won’t forget your commitment to reach the end of the game.
  7. Enjoy the game and begin your journey to become a King.

Don’t have an Android device?

I am currently considering publishing an .ipa file for iPhone devices as well, using the online build services that Unity offers. As soon as it becomes available, I will upload it on this same page.

Why isn’t ChessEscape on Google Play Store?

I tried to verify my developer account, but Google did not accept the official documentation for my address. Creating a new account would mean paying the developer fee again and, even then, this first veto could be enough for them to deny me access to their service once more. On top of that, it opens the door to long processes of audits and requirements that, as I now understand, did not contribute to the heart of this project.

Over time, I came to see this refusal as a genuine blessing. Had my request been accepted, I would probably have kept the temptation of filling the game with ads just to monetize it—something that goes against the very essence of ChessEscape.

This experience reminded me of what Linus Torvalds went through when he created Git: sometimes a “no” is the doorway to a freer path. I then decided to embrace a philosophy closer to open source, to sharing knowledge, and to the coherence of offering my work to the world for free.

The only “advertising” you will find in the game is a discreet message between level transitions, where I invite anyone who wishes to support me through donations on this website.

In conclusion, I deliver my work to you directly, with no intermediaries. If you want to fully enjoy the game on your phone, you only need to give ChessEscape the trust that Google was not able to place in me. You are free to install it or delete it whenever you wish. And if you still don’t feel comfortable installing it, you can always choose to play the WebGL version, which will be available starting December 1, 2025.

The WebGL version lets you enjoy the game directly in your browser. Keep in mind:
